Dun-dun devlog: second boss added for testing
Hello again!
It's been a while, hasn't it? You maybe noticed that there was no devlog posted in the previous month. I'll talk more about that later, but let's get the interesting stuff out of the way first: a full year after the game's launch, the normal mode for the second boss is ready for testing. You can play it by downloading the 0.2.0 version of the game that corresponds to your OS.
There are some things I want to iron out (not having any healing past a certain point, for example) and only the normal difficulty works (to be honest I haven't even tried clicking on the other options but my guess is nothing happens), but right now I think the most important thing would be to get some testing going. So if you do download and try it please tell us what you think about the mechanics of the boss.
IMPORTANT: THE BOSS CURRENTLY HAS UNFINISHED MUSIC AND GRAPHICS. THE POINT OF THIS RELEASE IS TO TEST THE GAMEPLAY MECHANICS. YOU CAN GIVE YOUR INPUT ON THE ARTISTIC SIDE TOO BUT KEEP IN MIND NONE OF IT IS FINISHED
And that's all about the new release. Go and have some fun with it! Next, I'm gonna talk a bit about these devlogs.
So it has become clear to me that for some reason I just don't have as much time as I used to to work on the game. It may be me becoming lazier, it may have to do with some things happening in my life right now, but whatever the case, that's just how things are. Mind you, this doesn't mean the game isn't being worked on, or that the project is dying. It's not. Or not yet anyway. It just means that where I used to work three days a week for 2 hours and tried to squeeze in at least an hour on most of the other days (with Saturday being the only day where I usually didn't work on the game at all) now I just get two 2 hour days a week, and my current schedule has made it so working any other day is inconvenient, as I have to do it in my free time very early in the morning before work or well into the afternoon after work, which means I'm sleepy and tired and sometimes just not in the mood to get anything done. And that doesn't take into consideration the time I need to work on house chores, which usually consumes one of the two free days I have to work on the game.
Now, this is less of a "These are my excuses and I'm sorry I can't work on the game, I'll try to improve it from now on" and more of a "This is my current life style and that's what you and I have to deal with", as this was always a long term, do-it-when-I-feel-like-it kind of thing, both for me and for the rest of the team. I can't even guarantee that if I get some more free time I'll spend it working on the game, as I still like my other hobbies and I haven't played a game to completion since Elden Ring came out (and I took a week off of work for that, and I'm still missing some bosses and achievements I want to complete and I'm still bitter about it). This is a really roundabout way of saying what I always have said: even though I'm working on them, meaningful updates for the game will come out slowly. And from now on, they'll probably come out very slowly.
And, two paragraphs later, all of this means that if updates are going to become slower, then I see no need for me to post a monthly devlog. I was hoping to have this come out on March, and here we are in the middle of April with the boss out but barely tested. I didn't want to make another "Nothing this month, but something is coming for sure! Stay tuned!!!" devlog because that's what I've been doing for the past what? Six months? It's not interesting content for you and I just don't see a point in doing that anymore. It made sense when I could work on the game more regularly as things happened at a fast enough pace but now that just isn't the case anymore. So no more monthly devlogs, from now on you'll only see a new one if there's something new to try or something interesting to share.
So, as a closing point, I'll once again reiterate: the game is being worked on. You won't see as many updates from me from now on, but I assure you, we are alive and working on the project. If the project dies for whatever reason, I'll tell you. Just start thinking about Dun-dun in a more "no news is good news" kind of way.
With all of that finally said, I'll end the post here. I'll see you some time in the future, and I hope you enjoy the new boss in the mean time! Have a nice one!
